Darwin "Shubby" L. Marquette

Darwin “Shubby” L. Marquette, 81, of Dalmatia peacefully passed away at his residence on March 26, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Hoffman) Marquette, sharing over 37 years of loving marriage. Born on November 7, 1943, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Williard and Dorothy (Holdren) Marquette.

Shubby was a standout quarterback and running back for Trevorton High School’s Class of 1961, his passion for football led him to a lifelong commitment to coaching. He began his coaching career with the Trevorton Athletic Association’s midget program, mentoring young athletes on the Trevorton Colts for many years. His love for the game continued as he served as a dedicated assistant football coach for the Line Mountain Eagles for an incredible 57 years.

Beyond football, Shubby built a successful career as a laboratory supervisor at Meckley’s Quarry before retiring. He was a man of faith and a devoted member of St. Paul’s UCC in Urban, where he served as vice president of church council for many years. He was a life member of the Herndon Fire Company and he cherished his friendships he built at Devil’s Den Hunting Club.

Shubby will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joan; daughters, Sue (Jack) Poremba of State College, and Barbara (Ray) Schroeder of York; son, Dar W. Marquette of Trevorton; stepsons, Dave (Michelle) Zerbe of Danville, and Dan (Jessica) Zerbe of Poquoson, VA; stepdaughter, Heather (Kevin) Gonzago; grandchildren, Kristy, Dylan (Katie), Kiersten (Tyler), Zach (Brooke), Ian, Wayde, Blaine, Kahle, Lance (Hannah), Julia, Molly; great grandchildren, Roxis, Cassady, Mason, Victoria, and Charlotte.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 12:00PM at St. Paul’s UCC, 1473 Urban Rd, Herndon, PA 17830 with a visitation from 10:00AM until the time of service.
