Janet Bitterman Obituary

Janet May Bitterman, 91, passed away at her home in Coal Township surrounded by her loving family on the morning of Tuesday March 25, 2025 after a very brief illness. She was born at home on February 20, 1934 in Locust Township, The daughter of Harry P & Mildred I (Lewellyn) George.

She graduated in 1953 from Mifflinville High School. After high school she worked in a sewing factory until she met the love of her life Jesse E Bitterman. They married on December 11, 1954. She was a wonderful homemaker for many years raising her family before reentering the working world. She worked for GMC in Danville for 16 years before retiring in 1996.

Mom was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and home maker, she was a master of countless skills from cooking, baking & gardening to crocheting, sewing and rug making she absolutely loved working in her yard and gardens. Mom could take a dead twig and make it grow into a beautiful plant or use an unwanted piece of material and create something gorgeous like curtains, pillows, or rugs she also made some of her daughter‘s wedding gowns complete with all the accessories.

Mom adored every member of her family and treasured every moment spent with them, especially if she could have one on one time. She had a very special close bond with her niece and her husband, Tracy & John and her friend Joan Brown.

Mom battled many things throughout her life but she was like Cinderella she always remained gentle and kind. Mom was willing for adventure and was not afraid to try many things. Her goal to get well After a recent battle with Colon cancer was for her grandson Gary to take her for a ride on the back of his Harley, which she did at age 85 and it was televised on channel 16.

She is survived by her five loving daughters Bonnie Steinhart, Brenda (Keith Yoder), Diane (Kevin McCormick), Betty (Steve Bamford) & Sharon (Dave Brown), Her 8 grandchildren Gary Steinhart, Joshua and Nathan Yoder, Ryan and Kiley Mccormick, Kyle Bamford and Jared and Justin Carl and all of their spouses. 11 great grandchildren with one on the way and 3 step great grandchildren, 2 sisters Tootie (Barry) Faust & Barbara (Dave) Allen, a sister-in-law Sheryl George, nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving Husband, her parents, a brother Larry George, a very special nephew Greg Faust, a son in law Gary L Steinhart Sr and her very special pup Levi.

Mom loved her family immensely and was so proud of each and everyone in it.

If mom could be remembered by one single thing, she would most likely choose Ice Cream, she LOVED her ice cream. She could never name a favorite as she loved them all.

There are no words that can express the great loss that her family feels but it brings us all much comfort knowing that Mom is now in the arms of her savior Jesus and will eternally fly with the angels.
