John “Jackson” E. Long Jr., 78, of West Cameron Twp., passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family on April 12, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Betty L. (Phillips) Long, sharing over 51 years of loving marriage. Born on August 14, 1946, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late John E. Long Sr. and Clara Mae (Latsha) Heintzelman.
Jackson proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, he worked as a truck driver for over 55 years. He started out driving for different companies and later became the owner and operator of his own trucking business.
He was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in West Cameron and served on the church council. Jackson was also very active in his community. He was a life member of the Trevorton VFW and the Commander for over 20 years. He belonged to the Northumberland Masonic Lodge No. 404, several local fire companies, VFWs, and life time member of Mandata American Legion.
Jackson loved riding his Harley, often alongside his good friend Jeff Snyder. He was a member of the Susquehanna Motorcycle Club in Milton. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing in Canada, hunting, and playing cards—especially Euchre and Poker.
Most of all, Jackson loved spending time with his family. He especially looked forward to family picnics, where he made many happy memories.
Jackson will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty; daughters, Wendy Martz (Jeff) of Dalmatia, Sherri Miller (Gary) of Sunbury; son, David Bowman (Jennifer) of Elysburg; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; siblings, Edna Kaup, Joan Kerstetter, Karen Yeager, and Ray Long. He was predeceased by his brother, Craig Latsha.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Himmel's Church, 1941 Schwaben Creek Rd, Rebuck, PA 17867 with a viewing from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, West Cameron. Arrangements have been entrusted to Foust Funeral Home, LLC. Trevorton, Ryan G. Foust, supervisor.
