Pastor John “Jack” W. Cooper, 97, a faithful servant of his God, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Zerbe Nursing Home in Narvon, PA.
Born Feb. 11, 1928, in Shamokin, PA, he was the son of the late Richard E. Cooper, Sr. and Margaret (née Evans) Cooper. His first 24 years were spent working on his father’s farm in rural Shamokin (East Cameron) and preparing for ministry. He was ordained in 1959 by the General Association of Regular Baptists and officially pastored his first congregation at Jackson Baptist Church, Benton, PA. Throughout the years, he pastored several churches in Northeast and Central PA.
In 1949 he married Dolores L (Long) Cooper, his wife of 75 years.
He was pre-deceased by his brother Richard E. Cooper, Jr and sister Margaret Madara.
His wife Dolores survives him and daughters Judy (Richard) Heiser (Fort Wayne, IN) and Margaret (Jeffrey) Risser (Lititz, PA). Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Foust Funeral Home, LLC 841 W. Shamokin St. Trevorton with a viewing from 11:30 AM until the time of service with pastor Ferdie Madara officiating. Burial will follow at Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
