Tanjerine “Tanj” Shingara, age 68, of Hunter Station, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Saturday, January 19, 1957, in Coal Township, the daughter of the late Stephen Shingara, Sr. and the late Barbara G. (Nye) Shingara.
A 1974 graduate of Line Mountain Jr./Sr. High School, Tanj dedicated over thirty years of her life to Angie’s Market before retiring in July 2024. She attended Augustaville Wesleyan Church and a woman whose faith guided every part of her life.
Tanj loved baking, cooking, and doing her daily devotions, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and sisters. Known for her immense love for her family, she was affectionately called “Grammy” by many. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and she was overjoyed to be expecting her first great-grandchild in early 2026. Fiercely loyal, generous, and always ready to listen, Tanj would do anything for the people she loved.
Above all, she loved Jesus deeply and lived her life as a reflection of that love. She was loved by so many, and to know her was to love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Stephen Shingara, Jr., Matthew Shingara, Sr., and John Shingara, Sr.
She is survived by her children, Keith Reader, Jr. and his wife, Raine, of Trevorton; Natalie Phillips and her husband, Matthew, of Hunter Station; Elizabeth Snyder and her husband, Jeremy, of Dornsife; and Paul Deivert, of Selinsgrove, whom she loved as her own. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Stevie Fegley and her husband, Gavin; Ki Phillips and his companion, Gina Carapellucci; Emily, Olivia, Charlette, and Isaac Snyder; Madelyn, Maxwell, and Violet Phillips; Kaine Reader; and Brady and Carolynn Deivert. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Sassaman of Sharon; Hope Dunkelberger of Coal Township; Faith Klingler and her husband, Kenneth, of McClure; Rachel Phillips and her husband, Lee, of Herndon; her brother, Mark Shingara, Sr. and his wife, Cathy, of Sunbury; sisters-in-law, Barbara, Christine, and Kelley Shingara; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
